The portrait shoots we’ve done over the last few years have re-affirmed something that we know – photographs are extremely personal to people. Although one may not be able to directly voice what they want from a photography session, it is evident that the photographs they like are the ones that talk about them and document their lives. Folks want to see moments in their lives that might capture the essence of being ‘them’ and not those that are far removed from reality. Sometimes this takes the course of the realm of fantasy – elaborate light setups and props – and these do result in fantastic images, no doubt. But there are others which don’t emphasize an element of fancy or a hard-to-emulate technique. These are pictures that are truly representative of your relationships, personalities or memories. Such pictures never fail to evoke the strong emotions whenever we look at them. These are stories that speak a thousand words without saying a single one.
Recently, we photographed Halley and Pratyush, both of whom are new to the city of Seattle and had a wedding coming up! We did a small pre-wedding shoot for them as well. Pre wedding shoots are important for us photographers since they let us get to know the bride and groom better before the main event. It gives us a chance to interact more intimately, if you may! It helps us know their personalities, their likes, their dislikes, the kind of relationship they share and more importantly, their chemistry! As photographers, it is these small things that portray the most telling tales about a couple. As we were chatting with them, we found out that hidden behind their quiet and shy exteriors were two individuals who love adventure, the outdoors and speed – specifically on two wheels! We had found our theme and we decided to do a shoot around this theme and bring out their cloaked dynamism!
As it turns out, this rad couple are both avid riders and one of their favorite things to do together is riding their bikes through life’s twisties! This couple’s committment and enthusiasm about this shoot was definitely infectious and we picked a few locations to shoot at. When they arrived, the couple was so kicked about this session, the energy got the better of us too!
