Window to our galaxy
Arches National Park
On our last trip through the South-west United States, we had a chance to visit ‘Arches National Park’ which is home to the famous ‘Delicate Arch’. The sheer beauty of the place however, was only apparent after dark. We patiently waited past sunset as the twilight hours gave way to the dark envelope of night. Then as our eyes adjusted, we were spellbound with the extravaganza of stars in the sky. We must have spent hours just sitting and staring at the sky as the Milky Way stretched it’s arm over our heads.
Standing right there, among the billions of points of light, you realize what a mere speck you are in the symphony of creation. As we waited, we struck up a conversation with a fellow photographer who was there with his family. It felt really nice listening to him explain the cosmos to his young kids as they stayed up into the wee hours of the night as well. We hung around together until the early hours of pre-dawn and hope to catch up on another trip soon.
As we moved on, we left behind a place that we know we will have to visit again later. Until then, these images are illustrative of our experience there.
